    Interactive designers or configurators are the holy grail of online shopping.  Manufacturers want sales tools that help customers configure their products to speed sales. Studio2a has been involved in a few over the years from architectural products to home goods.  Technology keeps changing and so do the methods but the end result is usually the same.  Today we are getting closer and closer to fully interactive environments.  Soon users will be able to use interactive designers in VR.  In the meantime, the longest running interactive designer website we’ve been a part of is the Carousel Designs Bedding Designer.


    The interactive bedding designer website allows a customer to choose their own fabric options for a variety of different product combinations.  Pick your product configuration and then change the fabrics and room materials to match your home nursery.  The user receives what appears to be a real-time rendering of the result.  However, the secret behind the on-screen magic is the hundreds of layers and masked Studio2a created. Studio2a constructed a 3d scene of the nursery with a variety of products. Each product was rendered independently into separate layers so fabrics and finishes can be overlaid in real time through the website. The process resulted in over 100,000 unique layers managed by the site’s database.
